To Grief

Shadows fall and sway in the wind
We soar on wings grafted from bone
They carry us high into the night
And then we fall
Snakes in the sky
We squirm our way back to the earth
Jaws unhinged
We consume ourselves to soften the landing
We molt into tender states of being
Sensitive to every touch and every emotion
Call us harlequins, for we say not what we are, but our visage betrays the truth
Salvaged and melded from the performance of love
The dance continues
